will be on display at National Archives in Atlanta as
part of 'Coming to America' exhibit starting July 20, 2011
The original mural, "The Role of the Immigrant in the Industrial Development in America", was painted by Edward Laning in 1938 under the WPA program. It was approximately 180 feet long. In the mid 1950’s most of the mural was destroyed by a storm and had never been seen by the general public.
This reproduction by Andrew Sabori assisted by art students from Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy, in Las Vegas and Pahrump Valley High School, is a tribute to Laning and our early immigrant forefathers.
The original mural was part of the WPA program, established under President Franklin D. Roosevelt, to put people to work and help promote the arts.
The mural shows the founding and building of America by the pioneers from different countries of the world.
In the black and white photos, Laning can be seen with his assistants painting on the original mural. That photo can be compared to the size of the reproduction in which Andrew Sabori can be seen with his students.
Mural has been displayed at the Andre Agassi Academy, Las Vegas; the Nevada Historical Society, Reno; the NE Nevada Museum, Elko; ; West Jordan Historical Society, UT, Union Station, Ogden, UT and Jailhouse Hotel & Casino, Ely, Churchull County Museum in Fallon, and Sparks Heritage Museum in Sparks, NV. Savannah Rapids Visitor Center in Augusta/Martinez, GA and The Aiken Center for the Arts in Aiken, SC
Plans are in progress to show the mural plus portraits of famous immigrants in Atlanta at the National Archives starting July 20, 2012 as part of their exhibit entitled "Coming to America". This exhibit is open to the public free of charge and we encourage partents, schools and/or other orizations to bring young people to see it.
